About Global Warming |

What can we learn about Global Warming from the bible? First we need to ask: What is "Global Warming"? From what I have observed, "Global Warming" is the rise of the average temperature (air and ocean waters) observed worldwide since weather data are recorded. So far this "worldwide temperature average" has only risen a degree or two within decades. And weather data has been recorded only for maybe the last 200 years. We can only guess what the "global temperatures" might have been a couple of thousand years ago. Interestingly the same people who are firm believers
in evolution also firmly believe in "global warming" and vehemently
defending both theories. This is just another reason why neither the evolution theory nor the global warming theory make sense. At the same time I don't want to deny, that our
weather pattern seems to change. But in the bible we read, that God is
in control of the weather. HE lets the sun come up every day, makes the clouds,
lets it rain and snow (Job 37). HE also makes the seasons and has
promised, that they will be there until the end of the earth. But God does use the weather to get our attention as HIS Word tells us in different places:
Job 38:22 “Have you ... seen the storehouses of
the hail, Job 38:23 which I reserve for times of trouble ...
Eventually global warming can be uncovered as another lie from satan, with the purpose to draw us away from God and to follow him.
A prime example for God's Word on rain and man's behavior was preformed by prophet Elijah with great signs as it is written in 1 Kings 17-18: King Solomon prays as he consecrates the new temple in Jerusalem. Part of his prayer is the following: 1Ki 8:35
“When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because your people
have sinned against you, and when they pray toward this place and
confess your name and turn from their sin because you have afflicted
them, Some years after Solomon a drought happened in Israel as we can read in 1 Kings 17. The act concludes in chapter 18 with the mighty display of God's glory and power on Mount Carmel through the prophet Elijah. After the people acknowledge God and then kill all the false prophets it finally rains again.
Living in Western Kansas makes a person familiar with dry weather, rain shortage, resulting crop failures and wells drying up. Studying Scripture I was surprised how much God's word has to say to this subject. LEV 26:3 ‘ If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments so as
to carry them out,
DT 11:13 “It shall come about, if you listen obediently to my
commandments which I am commanding you today, to love the LORD your God
and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul, DT 11:14 that He
will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain,
that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil. DT
11:15 “ He will give grass in your fields for your cattle, and you will
eat and be satisfied. DT 11:16 “ Beware that your hearts are not
deceived, and that you do not turn away and serve other gods and worship
them. In Deuteronomy chapter 27 through 28 Moses explains to Israel the Word from God as he projects blessing on mount Gerizim and curses on mount Ebal. He used the mountains probably to imply the importance of this Word to the people by using mountains to symbolize it. DT 28:11 “ The LORD will make you abound in prosperity, in the
offspring of your body and in the offspring of your beast and in the
produce of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers
to give you. DT 28:12 “The LORD will open for you His good storehouse,
the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all
the work of your hand; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall
not borrow. You have defiled the land with your
prostitution and wickedness. Jer 3:3 Therefore the showers have been
withheld, and no spring rains have fallen. Therefore let us turn back to God, confess our sins, repent from our ways, so HE can heal our land. |
